Setup and Objective

The setup was minimal and colourful in order to gather the attention of the students. In the process of the opening circle, we used the hand drum. The objective of the hand drum was to alert the students for the opening circle. Following this, we had a rainbow stretch band in our setup to conduct the opening circle.

How it happened

As an opening circle ritual, the facilitator uses the drum along with the singing ‘Get in a circle, a big big circle’ in order to alert the children to come together in the space. Once the students came into the circle, we warmed up to the ‘Hu-haa’ by holding hands and jumping up and down. When the students are warmed up, the facilitator introduced the rainbow parachute. The children held the parachute along the edge. We played the ‘crazy frog’ in the background and explored different movements together. While some kids went under the rainbow, others moved it up, down and sideways in a circle. The children showed a lot of excitement with the new colourful prop. The children also suggested their own creative ways to engage with the colourful parachute.
