Flower Bouquet

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

  • Flowers

  • Leaves

  • Cardboard

ACTIVITY PREP:

Cardboards were cut in small squares and vases were drawn on them. We also made holes on the cardboard for posting flowers and leaves.

INVITATION SET-UP:

We placed the flowers and leaves in separate baskets and placed the cardboard vases around the table. A facilitator started posting flowers in the cardboard and kids were very intrigued by how colorful and inviting the table looked.

PROCESS

The kids held the cardboard with the help of a facilitator and used the other hand to post flowers and leaves. Some flower bunches were very big and so kids also engaged in flower picking and sorting.

CHILDREN’S RESPONSE:

The kids thoroughly enjoyed this activity and intently followed all instructions. They were attracted to the colorful flowers and leaves, and loved how beautiful their vases looked once complete. Some kids also enjoyed tearing off and sorting leaves as a side activity. 

PRECAUTIONS:

Ensure that the flowers and leaves are ridden of any thorns or pests.

SKILLS & CONCEPTS:

Fine Motors Skills - Activities such as picking flowers and leaves require the use of small muscles.

Sensory Skills - This activity enhanced their sensory skills by acquainting kids with the touch and feel of flowers, leaves and stems.lps build and retain their attention, focus and concentration during the course of the activity.

Hand-eye coordination - Posting flowers, stems and leaves through the holes in the cardboard aided development of hand-eye coordination in children.
