Cupcake Decoration

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

  • Premade cupcakes

  • Chocolate frosting

  • Cake toppings (sprinkles, edible confetti)

  • Cutlery

  • Tissue Paper

PROCESS:

Cupcakes were decorated with frosting first. Then it was topped with sprinkles and rainbow confetti.

CHILDREN’S RESPONSE:

The activity was able to capture the interest of most children. Everyone engaged in the process of decorating their cupcakes before eating it.

SKILLS/CONCEPTS

Fine Motors Skills - Using cutlery for different processes of cooking requires engagement of fine motor muscles.
Cognitive Skills -  Since cooking is experientially rich, it demands one’s brain to multi-task towards a certain result. Cognitive skills, such as, thinking, retaining information and paying attention develop during this activity.

Sensory Skills - Cooking provides an organic sensory experience. Smell, touch, sight, taste and sound are all used when toddlers engage in cooking.
Language Development and Communication Skills - The process of cooking involves a lot of communication. This provides an opportunity to learn language and communication skills.
