Burst-Burst-Burst the bubble!

Date: July 19, 2022
Time: Sensory Play
Facilitators: Simran J, Jasmine, Raveena and Sifat

PROPS USED

Bubble wrap (cut into smaller pieces) and Tempera paint colors.

What was the activity?

The activity was about exploring the texture of the bubble wrap, followed by squishing the bubbles with hands or by tapping the feet over it. The exploration was followed by squeezing paint colors all over the warp, as the second layer to the sensory inquiry.

Why did we plan this activity?

  • Fine and Gross Motor Skills: This play involved different body movements and exploring the wrap with their hand and toe fingers, all of which induces physical development.

  • Sensory Experience:  While popping the bubbles and mixing different colors on the bubble wrap, a sensory experience was induced for the kids.

  • Cooperative play: The arthlings were invited to play along with each other. Even while they ran or hopped, they were motivated to do so while being mindful of their friends doing similar movements around them, so that nobody pushes each other.

  • Cognitive skills: The kids were encouraged to follow the prompts given by the educators which enhances their listening and responding skills.

The Series of Steps engaged in?

Small pieces of the bubble wrap were cut beforehand. Before the sensory time, the wrap was around the slide area and the kids were invited to explore the texture of the wrap. After a while, paint colors were squeezed onto the wrap and kids were prompted to feel the different textures around them.

How did it go? (Finally!)

The kids were given the prompts, including, hopping, jumping and running across the wrap. Yuvaan started dancing (his body had a groovy flow and his hands were doing the similar gestures that we follow while doing ‘Rolly-Polly’ Rhyme, i.e, fingers wrapped in a fist, one arm over the other and rolling the arms in a circular fashion). Subsequently, the educator gave the prompt of “let's dance” while standing on the bubble wrap and many kids followed in their own unique ways. Hriday was also prompted to walk over the bubbles while one of the educators held his arms to help him balance. Aaradhya was fascinated by what you can see through the bubble wrap and invited the educator to peek through with her. When the paint colors were introduced, most of them seemed more excited to explore. Atharv Gupta, Jasvi, Janya, Prisha, Samika, Swastik and Radhya also joined in the activity. The movement cues that were prompted allowed Swastik to galavant with utmost energy and he was seen marching through the bubble wrap with great zeal.
