PBL: My Emotions! The Finale

Welcome to the Grand Finale of ‘My Emotions’! The Arthlings will create a final product to wrap up all they have learned in the past unit — literally!
PLANNING AND SETUP
The activity was divided into the following steps:
1. Making My Emotion Box: White flat-packed cake boxes and ribbons were provided for the activity. Stickers were designed and printed for decoration. Items made by the children during the project were assembled in trays.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Making My Emotion Box: The children were shown folded sample boxes at the tables. The educators explained that each Arthling would be making their own ‘Emotion Box’, in which they could take home everything they had made during the unit.
The children followed their educators while they demonstrated step-by-step how to make the boxes. They pressed the folds themselves! After the boxes were done, each Arthling added a sticker that said ‘My Emotion Box’. Then it was time to decorate with stickers! There were emoji stickers, as well as stickers of the words ‘Happy’, ‘Sad’, ‘Scared’, ‘Excited’, and ‘Angry’.
Once the boxes had been decorated, the Arthlings filled their boxes with items that they had created during the project. They put in their face illustrations, sock puppets, colour sheets, and bingo sheets; but they were most excited to be reunited with their handmade slime. The educators assisted the children in adding the finishing touch — a bright red bow! Finally, it was picture time!

OUTCOME AND FUTURE
This unit was filled with learnings for both our students and teachers! Our children were encouraged to focus on their feelings, and the feelings of others. This unit emphasized the importance of being in touch with our emotions, something which is not usually talked about in traditional schemes of education. In the end, the Arthlings were very excited about taking their work home!
For the educators, this was the first time they had designed a project with such abstract themes! They had the fun challenge of coming up with out-of-the-box ideas to make emotions more tangible for their students!
